Location: Archway, North London | Services: Kitchen Side Extension, Dormer Loft Conversion with Roof Terrace, Open-Plan Layout Transformation
The Archway project is a brilliant example of what is possible when every level of a London terraced home is reimagined with purpose and care. Our clients wanted more kitchen space, a transformed loft, and a home that felt genuinely open and connected — inside and out. NGC Build delivered all of it.
The Challenge
Like many North London terraced houses, this property in Archway had a narrow, underused side return alongside the kitchen and an untapped loft space above. The kitchen felt cramped and cut off from the garden. The loft was used only for storage. The overall layout needed a rethink to suit how a modern family actually uses their home.
Our clients were also keen to add outdoor space at a high level — a roof terrace off the loft conversion that would give them a private outdoor retreat above the rooftops of Archway.
The Kitchen Side Extension
We constructed a single-storey side extension into the side return, transforming the narrow underused passage alongside the kitchen into a generous, light-filled extension of the living space. The extension features a pitched roof with Velux rooflights, which flood the interior with natural light — solving the classic problem of side return extensions feeling dark and enclosed.
Bifold doors across the rear elevation give seamless access to the garden, erasing the boundary between the kitchen and outdoor space. Load-bearing wall removal and structural steel installation opened up the existing ground floor layout completely, creating a free-flowing open-plan kitchen and living area.

The Dormer Loft Conversion with Roof Terrace
The loft conversion was a dormer design, extending the rear roof slope to create a full-height room at the top of the house. The standout feature is the integrated roof terrace — a private outdoor space accessible directly from the loft room, with views across the rooftops of North London.
The loft itself was redesigned as an open-plan layout, making it versatile enough to serve as a master bedroom, home office, or living space. Structural requirements and building regulations compliance were carefully managed throughout.

The Result
